Head Coach Paolo Borchini Selects New Generation Of Italian American Football Standouts To Face American All-Stars In Annual Friendly Game

TORINO, ITALY – Thursday, April 11, 2013 – The Italian Under-19 national team has selected its roster to face Team Stars & Stripes at the 2,500-seat natural grass venue Primo Nebiolo Stadium in Torino in Saturday, April 13.

The Italian team has selected a new generation of young players having lost in the European Championship Qualifying rounds played in September in a tournament involving Great Britain, Serbia and the Netherlands.

The goal for the Italy U19 team is to qualify for the European Championship Under 19 tournament in 2015 and facing Team Stars & Stripes is ideal preparation for the challenges ahead. New head coach Paolo Borchini, who since 2007 has been the coach of Panthers Parma Under 18 and Under 21 teams, has scouted more than 150 Italian players invited to two different training camp held in March.

Offensive lineman Marco Vitale is the team’s only player who does not play in Italy. As an Italian-German citizen he plays in German team Osnabruck Tiger and chose to represent Italy rather than Germany.
